Requirement:
Law degree with honors (J.D. or equivalent) from a leading university and law school.
Licensed to practice law in Japan and/or US or other common law jurisdiction.
Strong transactional and project management experience.
Minimum of 7+ years of legal experience (with several years of experience at a leading global law firm and/or in-house at a major multinational corporation).
Proactive, enthusiastic personality, enjoys working hard and being challenged, and demonstrates sound judgment even in ambiguous situations.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing, draft agreements and negotiate in English and Japanese.
Amazon’s Legal Department is looking for a talented lawyer to fill the position of Corporate Counsel. The successful applicant will be one of 7 lawyers and 2 legal professionals reporting to a long-term Amazonian and Director, who reports directly to the Japan Legal Country Lead. This lawyer will be based in Amazon Japan’s Meguro headquarters, together with the Amazon Japan legal team.

This attorney will support Amazon’s e-commerce business in, amongst others: conducting vendor negotiations; leading negotiations for daily and complex commercial contracts; negotiating consumer issues; advising on regulated products; providing day-to-day corporate and business law counseling; administering and resolving legal issues that arise in existing commercial relationships; providing legal review of advertisements, promotions and marketing; and conducting reviews of procedural and regulatory compliance issues.
The candidate also will be expected to participate in other Amazon legal projects as directed, including the administration and resolution of legal issues that arise in existing commercial relationships and handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries.
Compensation is competitive and will be based on experience and will include equity compensation.
In-house experience at a consumer or e-commerce company.
