Lead Counsel
Facebook is seeking a talented and flexible generalist lawyer to join the APAC legal team as Lead Counsel, Korea. This role involves handling cutting-edge and complex legal projects across regulatory issues – including privacy and data protection, intermediary liability, consumer protection, e-commerce, and antitrust – with a primary focus on Korea and requires working with a range of cross functional experts in the legal, policy, communications and sales teams. The ideal candidate will have excellent legal and business judgment, legal acumen, strategic thinking, project management, stakeholder management experience and the ability to work across diverse teams and subject matters. This is an opportunity to support the Facebook family of Apps, products and services and to work on novel legal issues at the forefront of technology in an exciting, fast-paced environment. This is a full-time position based in Seoul, Korea.
Lead Counsel – Korea Responsibilities
Advise on legal matters relating to Korea in collaboration with the APAC and global legal teams, as well as public policy and communications
Represent the company in connection with regulatory inquiries by regulators in Korea, as necessary
Develop pro-regulatory strategies to engage and work with with legislators and governments in Korea to develop new legislation and regulatory frameworks
Advisory and project management responsibility with respect to a broad range of legal subjects including corporate, commercial, regulatory, IP and employment matters
Participation in other projects (both Asia and global based) as directed
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of relevant legal experience, either at a law firm or in-house with at least three years at top-tier US, UK or Korean law firm
JD , LLB, or equivalent degree and a good standing membership in at least one bar
Native or near-native fluency in verbal and written Korean and superior English communication skills required
Business judgment and client counseling experience advising clients in a wide variety of subject matters
Experience prioritizing work and providing advice under tight deadlines
Strong project management skills and the ability to manage several simultaneous projects in a multi-stakeholder environment under deadline pressure
Excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, and ability to work well with cross-functional teams
Key skills in legal writing
Exercise good judgment and provide practical solutions
Demonstrated effective outside counsel management experience
Being open to travel as and when required
Preferred Qualifications
Deep knowledge of APAC tech-regulatory landscape, authorities and frameworks
Experience in tech industry and, in particular, privacy and e-commerce issues
Japanese language capabilities is a plus
