Job Description:

Get to know the Role:

  • To work with other departments and contribute legal inputs to ensure smooth implementation of business initiatives and policies.
  • To ensure compliance with requirements imposed by regulators and assist in formulating strategy for legalisation.
  • To provide legal assistance to the operational needs of all verticals across the region

The day-to-day activities:

  • Strong drafting skills and able to advise on any commercial contracts related to to company’s business (e.g. e-hailing and deliveries laws, e-payment, contracts, companies, IP laws), including but not limited to providing advice on labour laws, consumer protection laws, criminal laws;
  • Must-have in depth experience in civil litigation and commercial real estate negotiation;
  • Having  strong legal, analytical, communication and presentation skills (commensurate with the candidate’s experience);
  • Supervising and coordinating with the external lawyers to be in accordance with the company’s direction and/or strategies;
  • Having an ability to understand the business, commercial requirements, company’s strategies and directions, its people and its organisational structures;
  • Having awareness of legal and commercial risks as well as the ability to balance such risks against business benefits, with appropriate mitigation measures taken;
  • Having an ability to work under immense pressure, multi task and with minimal supervision;
  • Able to carry out regular legal research and provide legal updates on current legal issues;
  • Having creative thinking to contribute the legal initiatives (e.g. risk management, training, standard contracts review, etc.) as assigned by direct report; and
  • Assist with management of on-going litigation and liaising with regulators.

The must-haves:

  • LLB from a recognized university with a 2:1
    Called the English Bar or Malaysian Bar
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, Bahasa Malaysia (including legal language and terminology)
  • Having an ability and commitment to travel within and, at times on short notice, in Malaysia.
  • Minimum 4 years working experience in a reputable law firm, preferably with a corporate and commercial expertise and commercial litigation background. Preference will be given to a candidate with having additional 1-2 years in-house counsel in a multinational company.
  • Having experience in relevant areas of the company’s business such as commercial contracts, electronic payment laws, corporate matters, litigation, etc.
