You will be based in the Singapore regional headquarters of the L’Oreal Group. The role promises a varied, fast-paced commercial law experience with the opportunity to strengthen your IT and data privacy expertise but also to develop a wide range of legal and corporate experiences.

Our Legal Counsel works at the heart of a busy and well-respected legal team, liaising with local legal teams across the SAPMENA Zone (South Asia-Pacific Middle East North Africa) of the L’Oréal Group, as well as the international legal function based in Paris. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a strong understanding of L’Oréal’s businesses throughout the Zone, and providing timely, accurate and legally compliant advice to L’Oréal’s divisions, functions and countries within the Zone in line with business objectives.Our lawyers work with colleagues from all areas of the business, including in information technology, data privacy, commercial (digital, ecommerce, retail and sales etc), marketing, purchasing, finance, market research, consumer advisory, and communications and PR.

Reporting Structure

The role reports to the General Counsel for L’Oréal SAPMENA.

You will …

  • Negotiating, reviewing and drafting all types of contracts and legal documents
  • Advising the operational and functional departments in all areas of law (commercial, competition, charity, corporate, communications, IP, and property) with a substantial focus on information technology and data privacy
  • Provide training and/or empower business with the learning to increase and ensure awareness and appropriate compliance with internal policy and relevant laws and regulations.
  • Advising on competition law and supporting the General Counsel in ensuring compliance
  • Monitoring intellectual property issues, counterfeit matters and brand protection
  • Maintaining the existing high profile of the legal team throughout the business and active legal involvement in operational decision making
  • Liaising with counterparts in the Paris-based headquarters and local legal teams across the Zone

The opportunity

This is a great opportunity for a mid-level legal professional (3-5 years PQE) already working in-house or still in private practice, ideally in a corporate or commercial department, to develop their knowledge and experience in a broad and varied in-house role presenting a wide range of challenges in a legal function which is seen as a real partner to the business.The role will provide regular exposure to practical challenges requiring not only legal knowledge but also commercial acumen and strong inter-personal skills.

You have …

  • An active license as a qualified lawyer (in a US, UK or Commonwealth jurisdiction)
  • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken), negotiation and presentation skills
  • Ability to rapidly digest and distill complex issues and help formulate strategy / responses
  • Ability to work fluently in a diverse and multi-national environment
  • Ability to coordinate among key stakeholders and manage relationships at multiple levels
  • Ability to manage cross-border projects
  • Strong demonstrable and relevant track record of advising on legal issues, especially on IT and data privacy
  • Strategic thinker with ability to move effortlessly between strategy, implementation and tactical opportunities
  • Ability to establish, exploit and influence effective networks at all levels
  • Confident, persuasive individual capable of managing and resolving difficult situations
  • Knowledge of operating a selective distribution network and free standing stores or working in FMCG environment setting is an advantage
  • Knowledge or fluency of French is an advantage
